Biography The Summer Januaries got their start busking the streets of Seattle, in the summer of 2011, playing Pike Place Market upwards of five days a week. Made up of two sets of musical and romantic partners, the band shoots little arrows of love to their audience in the form of ridiculously fast and fun fiddle tunes and songs. Fiddle player Rachel Sage was trained as a classical violinist at a young age, but was always drawn to fiddle music and more folk traditions. She has made these aspirations a reality for the past six years, learning folk fiddle tunes from a wide variety of sources, and busking and performing all around the Pacific Northwest.

Biography Formed in Bellingham, Washington in March 2010, Polecat has quickly established itself in the Northwest, with two records and over 100 shows in one year. Biography In the words of Bruce Springsteen, “nothing feels better than blood on blood”. The Sumner Brothers know this in the most intimate of ways; they make music together. They are a partnership and they are friends, and they are a band. The trust shared between front-men Brian and Bob Sumner is a trust that is hard to come by. Their first release In The Garage, became an underground sensation charting in the top 10 for Folk/Roots/Blues on Canadian College Radio. With a fired-up fan-base and a sprawling tour schedule, the Sumner Brothers released their Self Titled Debut in 2008. Recorded on Galiano Island, surrounded by wildlife and fueled by BBQ and beer, the brothers created a true alt-country gem. Biography Vince Martinez is a Seattle-based americana singer/songwriter originally from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Vince and his band, The Great Blue Yonder, have been performing in and around Seattle for the past two years and have increasingly been receiving recognition for their engaging live performances and honest, straightforward music. Vince and the band’s latest album, Northwest by Southwest, features original music inspired by Martinez’s New Mexican roots, as well as his recent Pacific Northwest experiences. Vince is also a member of the Seattle chapter of the Bushwick Book Club, a group of musicians that read books and perform original music based on the reading. The Bushwick Book Club has been celebrated in the Seattle Times and the Stranger. Biography The original intention was to make a record. After years of touring and recording with the brash and energetic garage punk outfit The Whore Moans, songwriter Ryan Devlin had notebooks full of material that just didn’t fit: folk tunes that sounded more like the Bob Dylan and Paul Simon he grew up on; finger picking ramblers and Nashville style ballads. The songs kept playing through his mind, insisting he find an outlet for them. A year before Smokey Brights would play their first note together, Devlin sought out the musicians whose talents he wanted to help him realize these persistent songs: Jim Vermillion and Nick Krivchenia had been playing bass and drums together every week for the past five years for upwards of twenty hours—just the two of them—working on tight syncopations, in time signatures that read like long division. Their efforts had been under the names Armed with Legs and Kill Kill Orchestra. To have one in a band was to have the other, like brothers, or house players in an old soul studio. The duo agreed to try some songs out with Devlin, and work began in the summer of 2010. Mike Kalnoky was best known for his angular lead guitar lines in What What Now, the DIY Seattle art-punk band. Though, if you’d ever had the chance to see his old outfit Thunderbird Motel, you’d know that Mike can play the blues—the area where his musical roots truly reside. When Devlin asked him to sit in on a rehearsal with a yet un-named trio, it all came together. Mike’s bright Telecaster bends sounded like a young Mike Bloomfield, weaving through the melodies, bringing the twang that brought it all back home. In the first week of 2011, they got down to business and made the record that had been spinning through Devlin’s mind for years. The result was a sum of their parts: some rock, some blues, some R&B, some twang. By the time the boys released “Can’t Rightly Say,” they were already filling up clubs, playing festivals, and even garnering some national attention. The songs and Devlin’s efforts have found their outlet, and the boys in Smokey Brights have been more than happy to oblige.

Biography The Local Strangers is a Seattle soulful-Americana band featuring Midwestern transplants Aubrey Zoli and Matt Hart. With powerful vocals and intricate harmonies, their poignant, honest, and relatable songwriting has distinguished them in the Americana/alt-country scene. They thrive on stage in an energetic display of passion – whether backed by their 6-peice band or as an acoustic duo – creating an unmistakable connection with every audience. After departing from long term musical projects, Aubrey and Matt met in September 2010 and quickly realized that they shared a common musical vision. Just a month after meeting, they entered the studio to begin work on their debut EP – the day after their first show. The collaborative recording process brought together sensational talent and laid the foundation for The Local Strangers’ full-band sound. Since releasing their debut EP in June, The Local Strangers have logged over 6,000 miles of touring on the West Coast and Midwest. Biography Charlie began playing folk, jazz, blues, bluegrass and honky-tonk in Bloomington, Indiana and took great interest in songwriting and compositon. Rambled out to the Northwest and found an affinity for the old-time music of southern appalachia and the Missouri valley, and he sought to add some of those traditional sounds to his original music.
