- Biography Born in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, Dora Oliveira has performed and taught Afro-Brazilian dance for over 25 years. Her career as a professional dancer began in 1976 when she joined renowned Brazilian folkloric dance troupe, Exaltao Bahia. Dora has been twice queen of Carnaval in Salvador and has learned a repertoire that ranges from Afro-Brazilian dance forms through jazz, ballet, and modern dance. After obtaining a professional dance degree from the prestigious Federal University of Brazil, Dora moved to the US where she has developed a large dance student following. Dora has toured the world as the principal dancer with Olodum the world famous samba bloc. She was featured on the opening credits and Brazilian dance episode of the PBS'' "Dancing" series, and choreographed the Afro-Brazilian performance of Seattle Theatre Group's Dance THIS! and Global Dance Party in 2011. Dora has dedicated her life to performing and teaching the many facets of Brazilian culture through dance and movement.
