  • Biography The Eclectic Cloggers perform a lively style of Southern Appalachian step dancing with its roots firmly based in the past. While some clogging groups perform to recorded contemporary music, the Eclectics dance to live old time fiddle tunes. The fun they have with the rhythms of Appalachia is unique and upbeat. This lively percussive dance form comes from the eastern mountain region of the United States, where it began as a mix of Irish, Scottish and English step dances with African and Native American influences. Some of the dancers learned clogging while living in the Appalachian region, others from performing groups throughout the United States. Each member brings their own energy and style to the group, hence the name, Eclectic! Members of the Eclectic Cloggers have traveled back east to dance camps and heritage festivals to connect with their traditional roots. Since 1982, the Eclectic Cloggers have performed at festivals and community events throughout the Northwest. In 1994, the group toured international folk dance festivals in Belgium, Switzerland and Holland. For more information about upcoming performances and clogging classes go to eclecticcloggers.org
